Join your local pig hunting club
In these times of electronic communication, it can be argued there is no need to belong to a pig hunting club anymore as everything you need can be accessed through your electronic device. This might be so if a club was only a mechanism for communication but there are a lot of other benefits to belonging to a club that cannot be accessed “on line” so to speak.
A club brings like-minded people, young and old, male and female, of all races and religions, together to share the enjoyment of hunting and being out in the bush. Networking with other club members may lead to new areas to hunt or the opportunity to obtain well-bred pups to improve your own hunting team. Club social gatherings are where the next generation of hunters can be introduced to the sport / lifestyle in a positive atmosphere. If people are going to pass on knowledge and assistance to others, they generally they want to know who you are and to meet you face to face as opposed to being just an email or face book address.
Club Competitions are also where hunters get to upskill their knowledge on hunting related topics and pass on their experiences to others. It gives you the opportunity to test your hunting skills against those like-minded people in friendly competition Club members will turn up whenever possible to support their club even if they haven't caught anything to weigh in because not every hunter has a result every time.
A strong club structure that reaches into local communities is of vital importance when we encounter threats to pig hunting that have and will continue to be launched by those that would put a stop to pig hunting. The mental health benefits of being physically fit and out in the bush with, and competing against, like-minded people cannot be underestimated. Being able to feed families with free range, gluten free protein whilst at the same time protecting our environment is a win/win outcome. We need to be able to demonstrate to politicians and the public the importance of pig hunting to New Zealand and the number of people that are prepared to stand up and be counted. A strong network of clubs helps do just that.
In addition, any club member of a pig hunting club that is affiliated to the New Zealand Pig Hunting Association has the added benefits of being able to utilise our Public Liability Insurance plus have a Health and Safety Policy and recognised Code of Conduct to follow. These have been prepared by pig hunters for the benefit of pig hunters.
Affiliated clubs also have access to the National Association for advice on the latest legislations and regulations such as animal welfare
So join a club, stand up and be counted and help protect pig hunting for the future.
